As your councilwoman, I would make sure that the City applies the best long term solutions, Having volunteered in the Homeless outreach programs I have personally seen the struggles homeless people go through. These folks have fallen on hard times and need our support to get back on their feet, but one solution does not fit all.
While housing options are needed, there are a significant number of homeless individuals that have serious mental illness and/or a substance use disorder. I will work to provide safe camping sites staffed by professionals trained in mental health and substance abuse treatment. We need to explore options to compel treatment, and work with the county to leverage state funding to address this component of homelessness by providing outreach and services.
